How to eat enough at one sitting to last you for 6 months!!!

John Blanchard, author of How to Enjoy Your Bible has this to say:

“Surely we only have to be realistic and honest with ourselves to know how regularly we NEED to turn to the Bible.
How often do we face problems, temptations and pressure?
Every day!
Then how often do we need instruction, guidance and greater encouragement?
Every day!
To catch all these felt needs up into an even greater issue, how often do we need to see God's face, hear His voice, feel His touch, know His power?
The answer to all these questions is the same:
Every day!
As the American evangelist, D.L. Moody put it,
'A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months, or take sufficient air into his lungs at one time to sustain life for a week.
We must draw upon God's boundless store of grace from day to day as we need it.'”

Why project 'oNe thirTy'?

Most times we only read a Bible verse here and a passage there.
Somehow we don't make a clear effort to read the entire Bible.

Some of us may begin from the very beginning, i.e. Genesis.
We will often make it to Exodus.
But then we will get confused in Leviticus, get discouraged in Numbers and then finally give up in Deuteronomy.

This problem is universal because we often do not get any guidance when we read the Bible.
The books in the Bible were written thousands of years ago, featuring people, customs, places and circumstances which are quite alien to us now.

We do not understand the culture and context and situation the biblical stories were set in, that's why we easily get lost and become disinterested.

Project 'oNe thirTy' seeks to guide you through the Word of God in a more relate-able way.

First and foremost, we need to remember that the Bible is God's Word for us. The Scriptures is our Father's love letter to His people. Within it contains the wisdom, teaching, guidance, inspiration and encouragement.

Even more importantly, the Bible revealed God's awesome love for us. His love for us is personified in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, who executed the most daring rescue mission ever.

Why not read and discover for yourself the whole story of God's lovingkindness.

We're starting with the NT because it is more easily digested (only 260 chapters), and that it is more directly relevant for us.

My prayer is that you would take up this invitation to read the NT, not for gaining knowledges' sake, but as a start to a life-long habit of encountering the Lord of the universe daily.

This blog will complement the daily readings by:
a) providing some background info and context on the readings
b) explain some difficult words and passages
c) sharing some questions to ponder

On your part, you can shoot questions and comments my way through the this blog.
Any digital shouts of praise to God are also welcomed!

What is 'oNe thirTy'?

What better way to kick off the new year than with a daily habit to get us better acquainted with God's Word and bring us closer to Himself.
So for 2009, OSH is embarking on project 'oNe thirTy' for all its members.

'oNe thirTy' is just a fancy way to say 'NTin130.'
'NTin130' in turn, simply means – 'covering the New Testament in 130 days.'
The New Testament contains 260 chapters.
This means that if we were to read just 2 chapters a day, we could finish reading the entire NT in 130 days.

'oNe thirTy' begins on Jan 4th, and will end on May 13th.
This blog serves to complement your 'oNe thirTy' readings.
On a daily basis, this blog will share some background info and the backstory that relates to the 2 chapters for the day.
Some difficult words and certain passages will be explained to guide your reading and to enhance your understanding.
Whenever appropriate, some brain-massaging questions will also be thrown into the mix.
AND ... remember to leave your questions and/comments in the blog, too!
